Monde Condos is a new condominium project by Great Gulf Homes will be a premier residential and commercial project within Waterfront Toronto's new community of East Bayfront.

Monde Condos proposed mixed-use building will contain some 540,000 square feet of residential and commercial space, distributed throughout two elements: a tower rising to about 36 storeys beside the Gardiner and a six-level podium extending south from under the tower to Queens Quay and will feature plant-covered roofs and lush stepped gardens.

Monde Condos has a total of 500 units and is scheduled for completion in 2018.

In addition to residential units, the development will feature ground floor retail, a daycare centre and potential office and cultural space. Ultimately, the project is expected to deliver a $200 million private sector investment in the community.

The Parkside site is bounded by Lower Sherbourne Street in the west, Bonnycastle Street in the east, Queens Quay East in the south and Lake Shore Boulevard in the north.

Monde Condos is the first private sector condominium neighbourhood to be developed within the East Bayfront area of the Waterfront Toronto community. Monde Condominiums is a stunning construction of limestone-coloured masonry and translucent glass. It's a balance between architecture and nature, seldom achieved. Generous outdoor balconies and terraces punctuate the building's exterior, like gardens in the sky. Perpendicular from the building, each staggered balcony is crowned by two storeys of open space.

The calming pale palette of stone and glass is a blank canvas for the stunning colours of the outdoors – the blue of the lake, the green in Sherbourne Commons Park and the twinkling lights of the city skyline. Rustic wood, metals and stone are layered to mimic the rough textures found in nature. High ceilings and extensive glass blur the lines between indoor and outdoor life.

Monde Condominiums is a community, within a neighbourhood, within the city. This ground-breaking LEED development sprung from the greatest minds in architecture and design. Moshe Safdie, the architect who gave us The National Gallery of Canada, returns for his first residential project since Habitat, the landmark residences of Montreal's Expo '67. Safdie worked with Cecconi Simone, the Toronto-based design firm known for their clean modern aesthetic, and Janet Rosenberg & Associates, the landscape firm that knows exactly what greenery will stay fresh and bright through Canadian winters, to create a building that took its cue from nature. Why the nod to the outdoors? "Nature is timeless," says Anna Simone, "there's no reason why 10 years from now it can't look equally as fresh as it does now."

Monde Condo is a dramatic 40-storey building at Queens Quay and Bonnycastle, Toronto. The main entrances to both the tower and the podium are off of Bonnycastle Street.

The architecture of Monde Condo, a groundbreaking building targeting LEED Gold certification comes from internationally recognized architect Moshe Safdie in collaboration with Quadrangle Architects. These masters of design worked with Cecconi Simone on the interiors and Janet Rosenberg + Associates on the landscape design to create a building with premium quality standards and a design aesthetic inspired by nature, the lake and the city.
